Not long ago, we have raved about the splendid graphically-intriguing all-over prints of the dresses in print designer, Mary Katrantzou’s collection; a terrific representation of how art is fashion, but is afraid of dressing head-to-toe in prints?
Well, fret not because now we have a capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2012, between the ingenious Mary Katrantzou (who is one of London’s biggest emerging fashion talents) and french fashion label, Longchamp, which is designed with the vision “When East meets West“, including an array of totes (the classic Le Pliage) adorned in Eastern-inspired motifs such as orchids and paper lanterns.
I don’t know about you, but WE DIG these prints!
“I met with Sophie Delafontaine, Longchamp’s artistic director, about a year ago to discuss the possibility of working together for the label’s spring/summer 2012 collection,” Katrantzou told Vogue. “She had seen my work and thought it would be a great collaboration for both. It was a really great opportunity for us to work with a brand with great heritage and I loved that it’s family run. Their Pliage and tote bags are the perfect canvas to engineer a print and it’s also great to offer women who might not be ready to commit to a fully printed look, a bag to accessorise with!“
This is what she has to say about the design direction :
“The prints we designed reference Vietnam temple architecture, Thomas Heatherwick’s design for their Soho store, lanterns, orchids, an aquarium and many more surreal juxtapositions. I wanted to create a Mary Katrantzou world for Longchamp and they were amazing at letting us be so creative with the prints!”
This vividly-engaging collection will definitely make a great addition and a splash for even solid-coloured outfits when it launches pre-exclusively in January 23, and will be available at Parisian luxury boutique Colette duringCouture Fashion Week.
