Throughout history, fashion has always placed the spotlight predominantly on womenswear. However, we are now seeing a rising interest in menswear, with more attention being given to the men’s fashion scene. With the upcoming Men’s Fashion Week Singapore, fashionistas out there are definitely in for a treat!

After the success of its first outing last year, Men’s Fashion Week Singapore (MFW) will be returning to Marina Bay Sands once again from 18–22 April 2012, presenting a fashion extravaganza featuring 19 shows.
Being the first country in Asia to present a Men’s Fashion Week, as well as the third country in the world to do so after Paris and Milan, the inaugural MFW Singapore 2011 was a remarkable achievement. The event attracted a total of 30,000 visitors and was broadcast across 31 satellites to over 160 million viewers in 193 countries.

“Given the success of last year’s spectacular offering, the immediate challenge is to move things forward and raise the bar this year. If the heart of fashion shows is the labels and clothes, music will certainly be the soul. Fashion, like music, is something for all to appreciate. As such, MFW Singapore 2012 will experience a fusion of sartorial elegance and eclectic beats. You can call this, the Music and Men’s Fashion Week, or M2FW, edition.”
– Frank Cintamani, Chairman of MFW Singapore, Women’s Fashion Week (WFW) Singapore and Haute Couture Week Asia
This year’s edition will undoubtedly be a high-octane fashion event to watch out for.
Come April 2012, Marina Bay Sands will be transformed into a fashion epicentre, where a diverse lineup of designers from France, the UK, the USA, Savile Row, Japan, Korea and Singapore will come together to present their latest collections to fashion enthusiasts.
Adding to the excitement will be music performances by 10 J-pop and K-pop stars, who will be revealed next week. World Runway II, a fashion styling competition that made its debut in Singapore last September, will also return to showcase the talent of stylists on the MFW 2012 platform.
Opening MFW Singapore 2012 at the Opening Gala on the first day will be not one, but two shows. The first will feature Spencer Hart, a Savile Row brand whose clientele includes celebrities such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, David Bowie and Matthew Williamson. The second will feature internationally acclaimed Korean menswear brand Songzio, a returning label from last year’s MFW edition, which will be showcasing its full collection this time around.
The exciting designer lineup making their runway debuts at MFW Singapore 2012 includes Korean labels Beyond Closet, D.Gnak, General Idea, Resurrection and Vandal, as well as Japanese designers Diet Butcher Slim Skin, Factotum, Jun Hashimoto and Pascal Donquino.
Other international labels set to make their mark on the runway include avant-garde British label Bodybound, French designer Alexis Mabille, UK-based Casely-Hayford and Matthew Miller, as well as New York designer Richard Chai.
Representing Singapore on the runway will be Reckless Erika, who will present their Fall/Winter 2012 collection.

Last but not least, Men’s Fashion Week Singapore will conclude with the iconic MCM (Mode Creation Munich), which will present its Autumn/Winter 2012 collection of artisanal leather goods, footwear and apparel at the Closing Gala. This will mark the first time the brand showcases its full collection in Singapore.
We are definitely looking forward to this spectacular fashion event, where the spotlight truly shines on men’s fashion.
