Fashion illustrations in total watercolour, undeniably beautiful strokes of art and refinery are that of Camila Cerda’s masterpieces. These are the reasons why we are so enchanted with her works and also why she is our featured Artist of the Month for October 2012.

While there are many artists and fashion illustrators alike who may base their works with mediums such as pencils, copic markers or even, watercolour paint which Camila uses, it is clearly uncommon to find one who does them in such a whimsical fluidity that only she is capable of. The sheer brilliance of her illustrations is characterised by a caricature style and expressive brush strokes in optimal hues.

Such is the vitality and beauty of her works, which has even earned her a 1st place in the Fashion Design Competition organised by BC Magazine, where she was awarded in the presence of renowned fashion designer José Cardoch as part of the jury.

To date, her illustrations have also been featured in numerous publications, such as Chilean fashion coolhunting magazine Revista La Calle under the “Featured Talent section‘, as well as the edition Nº3 of the magazine.

Fashion to her is clearly at the threshold of familiarity and involvement, especially since her background is in fashion design, illustration and even, visual merchandising from her studies in Pontifical Catholic University in Chile.

With that, models and pristine clothes of the runway have often dominate her illustrations, with the likes of British model Cara Delevingne, frocks from Chanel and many other fashion brands. She has also designed for various Chilean brands “Suivant” and “Cranberry Chic“, and even a sweet incarnation of the ‘Marie Antoinette‘ series for Guatemalan Pastry Shop “Antoinette”.

And of course, for those who have seen her works, her most eyecatching illustration by far which has piqued our curiosity would be none other than the one on London designer Mary Katrantzou’s Fall/Winter 2012 statement making digital printed dress.

Chosen by Mary Katrantzou’s studio to be in the Top 12 of Mary Katrantzou Fashion Illustration Contest just recently , her illustration can be said as one of the most striking, with an inclination to fantasy, the midnight blues that something magical might just happen.

Won’t you agree that her flair for concocting a tale and evoking a story is the winning combination of a stand-out amongst the crowd of fashion illustrators? I am so stoked for her next illustration!

So do check out her web illustration journal: Camila Cerda Illustration where she pins her latest illustrations and drawings.
