This season, the focus is on accessories and add-ons that compliment and accentuate your clothing. Just like how the quote from the ever-famous Marilyn Monroe goes: “Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world”, the right piece of accessories, on the other hand, makes a girl shine in her brightest.
And to making this happen, of course, is definitely no difficult task with the latest Spring/Summer 2013 “Cailín” collection (which means girl in the Gaelic language) from Irish fashion designer Joanne Hynes, who has gained the likes of Jessie J, Tulisa Contostavlos and Paloma Faith as her fans.
Working her DNA of minimalist-meets-maximalist and a design approach that dealt with experimental and instinctual craft techniques, she has produced a fresh series of motifs in accessories and bags that are stemmed from the romance of summer loves and past obsessions, and bringing together a surrealist dream of Old Ireland: from High School Lovers to the Dancing Shoes and to the memorable yet exciting Party Nights – these are but scenes that make up this dream of hers.
And of course, we also cannot forget the trophy prizes, boys in the fields playing Hurly, the tractor crisis crossing the land, and more importantly, inevitable broken hearts, one can so visualise as these motifs of the past encompass the style of this collection.
Depicting these elements is a range of refined leather goods that are sparkled with luxe crystal embellishments, with two particular stand-out items from the range of leather iPad covers and handbags, namely the Cailín Beag and the Cailín Mór– both featuring the surrealist hand, which is an iconic element in the entire collection that is stitched beautifully across these cases.
We can’t help but to feel that it seems to brings in mind Salvador Dali – our all-time favourite surrealist artist.
.
While they may also spark some artistic reference, these cases and bags are anything but ordinary.
In fact, their uniqueness stands out with the bold infusions of coloured hand-crafted blanket stitching that surrounds the circumference. And because of that, carrying them would definitely give thoughts to a Tippi Hedren Hitchcock moment whilst giving off some old school vibe.
.
At the same time, this season’s girl is also one who is edgy, whom like myself, never quite agree with the “less is more” quote and believes that donning on statement pieces has always been the way to go.
You would find that this clutch, which is emblazed with a rocket-shoe motif, is a must-have item and a perfect accent to rock the scene in utter uniqueness.
.
And to complete the street-style worthy outfit, the collection also feature one of the most delicious selection of necklaces I’ve seen so far.
.
Showcasing bold and individualistic character motifs such as a sawing heart, a pair of glitterati-flamed shoes and an iconic vintage car that resonates that of the 1920s, these necklaces incorporate and weave in luxe craftsmanship and beautiful crystal gemstones, echoing a flair of sophistication and innovation that has even managed to charm British singer Marina & the Diamonds, who was seen wearing Joanne Hynes’ ‘My Black Heart’ necklace from her collection.
.
To add on, the collection also feature some of the most glorious crystal-embellished detachable collars, which comes in multi-hues that are perfect to create many on-trend looks, be it with a dress or blouse, or even pilling two collars together to create a strong, confident look.
This form of the collar wasn’t cited as the fastest way to update an outfit for no reason, and in this case, its multitude of crystals encrusted together are enough to spellbind everyone and make you shine like a diamond.
.
With a story to tell in every piece, embracing pops of colours and standing out from the crowd this season with quirky stances is totally where the fun of dressing is at.
After all, life is too short to dress so seriously, so just let down your hair and personify your wardrobe with these wacky accessories from Joanne Hynes’ collection, and most importantly, party hard- stylishly.
