From 28 October 2016 to 5 February 2017, you can immerse yourself in the tranquility of French artist Agathe de Bailliencourt‘s site-specific work ‘Here from Here’ – a parallel project of the Singapore Biennale 2016 – in Aloft at Hermes.

Addressing the question of being present, which is according to Roni Horn“being where you are when you’re there” – the experiential exhibit, comprising of individually painted gravel layered and arranged to form an abstract landscape, takes its reference from the Japanese Zen garden.

It aims to take audience out of their physical place and time, and set them on a higher plane – one that is more concerned about moments and situations of ‘being there’.

This concept of de Bailliencourt undoubtedly challenges the romantic image of the horizon, traditionally a projection of a past and/or future without contradiction nor conflict.
